Tip for USDA employees - I had some trouble playing back the recordings while teleworking. After working with my USDA IT support, we realized that turning off VPN allows the recording to playback without any issues.
Hallie Zimmers
31:51
It also works fine if you have a mobile device. I think there is a challenge with the VPN firewall.

Thank you, for sharing the human impact and livelihood on farm families. It hits home and incredibly important.

It might be helpful for people to explain the definition of "quarantine". Many will hear quarantine and think that everything is shut down and stopped until the quarantine is 'released'. Farms in the control area will remain in quarantine until the control area is released. Dr. Kaisand referred to quarantine meaning movement only by permit. For some that could be termed as "controlled movement" or "permitted movement". In this case quarantine means stopping movement until a movement permit is issued. It may be helpful to explain so people aren't fixated on quarantine in the control zone meaning absolutely no movement until the quarantine is released??

Will live haul trucks be cleaned, disinfected and inspected before leaving processing plants?

Joseph Mcleod

What type of fan filters have been found to be effective to reduce aerosolized movement of virus internally and externally for air exchange where virus molecules exist?
Christopher Ondercin
01:20:58
During ASF will it be expected that states will conduct surveillance sampling in control and restricted zones? If yes, what percentage of farms within each zone? Is this something required to maintain our trade status? A great deal of sampling was done in WI during HPAI during 2015 with little effect towards eliminating the virus, found few to no positives, and requires staff to move from farm to farm, a potential biosecurity risk. As discussed in the presentations, these viruses move via farm staff, contractors, vehicles, etc.

As a US Customs and Border Protection Agriculture Specialist in the Port of Buffalo, NY, I have really gained a lot of knowledge about ASF through this weeks presentations. As a Field Training Agriculture Specialist it has been eye opening as to the seriousness of this disease to me and now I can pass this on to my fellow Specialists. Again to all presenters and USDA i thank you very much for doing this.

Would be a good investment for the US to pay indemmities for the stamping-out strategy in DR? Has been quantified vs paying for an outbreak in the US?

What would be the situations in which pigs would receive a potentially efficacious ASF modified live vaccine during an outbreak? What about movements of vaccinated pigs if the vaccine is not DIVA?
Ernest Hovingh
01:25:52
As far as a "food safety" issue - while it cannot infect people, sick/diseased animals cannot be slaughtered for food, so that will eliminate the use of most animals infected with ASF...

In MN, we allow burial, incineration, composting, rendering. In a disease outbreak, we look mostly at burial (as allowed) composting (whole carcass, grind/compost, and above ground burial.)
