Take 30 | Episode #27
History of DC: A Second Conversation on DC’s History and Long Fight for Autonomy & the Importance of Voting Rights

Attorney General Karl Racine will host a second conversation with Dr. Michael K. Fauntroy, PhD. about the history of DC and how DC’s lack of full independence has been a struggle throughout its history. This discussion will continue AG Racine and Dr. Fauntroy’s extensive initial conversation about how District residents have long fought for autonomy, and it remains a fight that continues today as we seek statehood. They will also discuss how voting rights, of the lack thereof, impacts the District and those across the country. Dr. Fauntroy is Associate Professor and Director of the Race, Politics, and Policy Center at George Mason University - Schar School of Policy and Government. He is the author of Home Rule or House Rule?: Congress and the Erosion of Local Governance in the District of Columbia. They will talk about some of the lesser known history of DC, discuss how we got to this point in our fight for DC statehood, and explain why democracy in DC is so important.
